Retrodajnia โ Plant Stand Configurator
An interactive configurator for hand-assembled tiered plant stands โ built from scratch as a bespoke tool, with a realistic product preview rendered live.
Challenge
Let the customer assemble a plant stand from dozens of colour and finish combinations on their own, seeing the realistic result right away โ instead of guessing from a description.
Solution
A bespoke canvas configurator: the engine recolours the shelves in real time (masks plus a shadow map over base photos). The colour of each tier separately, interchangeable bands and leg finishes, a random set generator, plus a preview of the true colour on real project photos.
What the walkthrough shows
A bespoke plant stand configurator
We built this tool from scratch for the Retrodajnia brand โ hand-assembled tiered plant stands. The customer assembles the product themselves and sees a realistic preview instantly. In the following steps I'll show you what it can do.
- Configuration
Choosing a model
To begin, the customer picks a plant stand model. The price is fixed, regardless of the configuration โ no surprises at the end.
- Personalisation
A separate colour for every tier
The heart of the configurator is choosing a colour for each of the four shelves independently โ 11 laminated board colours. Hundreds of combinations, and the preview updates instantly.
- Variants
Band and leg finish
Choosing the band and leg finish swaps the base photo of the whole plant stand โ four band colours and three wood finishes, each as a separate, matched render.
- Technology
A preview rendered live
The preview isn't a set of ready-made images โ a canvas engine recolours the shelves pixel by pixel, laying colour over a shadow map. That's why each of the hundreds of combinations looks realistic.
- Trust / UX
An honest colour preview
Next to each shelf there's a "Real colour in photos" button, and below the preview a clear note that the visualisation is for reference only. Before ordering, the customer sees the true shade in real project photos.
